May 13. Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal, transfer to hotel. Submit original passports for Group visa. Rest.
May 14. Kathmandu: Boudnath Stupa and the Tibetan community. Monasteries in the Boudnath area.
May 15. Kathmandu: the great Swayambhunath Stupa. Stay in Thamel overnight.
May 16. Kathmandu: explore Kathmandu from a perspective of a local by walking through the mazes of the old town. Visit Durbar Square.
May 17. Take transport to airport and fly to Tibet, arriving at Gonggar airport. Travel to Tsetang. View Yumbulhakhang, an ancient Tibetan castle en route. Overnight stay in Tsetang.
May 18. Visit the Dradruk temple. Lunch in Tsetang. Drive to Lhasa and visit Jokhang temple, the spiritual destination for thousands pilgrims from all over Tibet. Stay at Dekhang Hotel.
May 19. Lhasa: Visit Drak Yerpa cave hermitage and Jokhang temple.
May 20. Lhasa: Norbulingkha and Potala Palace.
May 21. Drive from Lhasa to Yamdrok lake to Karo la pass and Gyantse. Visit Pelkhor Chode monastery. Stay at Yak & Yeti Hotel.
May 22. Travel from Gyantse to Shigatse. Visit the Tashilungpo monastery, seat of the Panchen Lamas of Tibet. Lunch in Shigatse. Make a beautiful kora around the monastery, which allows a panoramic view of the city and valley, as well as the old Shigatse town (and Tibetan lifestyle). Drive to Shegar and stay at Shegar Hotel.
May 23. From Shegar, visit Rongbuk monastery, and finish at Everest Base Camp. If the weather is cloudy, overnight at the guesthouse in local tents with a view on Mt. Everest to enjoy the sunrise the next morning. If the sunset view on Mt. Everest is unobstructed, enjoy this and return to Shegar Hotel.
May 24. Everest Base Camp (or Shegar) to Peiku Tso Lake, to Kyirong.
May 25. Visit Kyipu Valley, the “Valley of Happiness” and princess’s Bhikurti Cave Temple. Enjoy the verdant valley with its holy places and waterfalls and see the local villages. Cross the border to Nepal. Drive to Dhunche for accommodation at a simple lodge.
May 26. Drive to Kathmandu. Relax or collect souvenirs (with flights after 9 pm, can return home same day).
May, 27. Transfer to airport and take return flights.
